Weekly Update – Week ending 22nd November

Tell us about it!

We really love to hear about what the children are getting up to outside of school. If you have something that you would like to share and have featured in our newsletter / Twitter / Instagram and mentioned in our assembly please send a photo and a description including:

  • Who it is (We will only use first names in our newsletters / social media)
  • Which class
  • A brief description of the event

We love to know about:

  • Exciting places visited
  • Events outside of school
  • Books your child is enjoying and why (It might encourage others to read the same book)

Reminders for next week: (Week beginning 25th November)

  • On Monday 25th November reception parents are welcome to attend a celebration Deaf Active Assembly.
  • On Monday 25th November a link will be sent to families at 6pm so you can reserve tickets for either the 4- 5:30pm session / 5.30pm – 7pm session. Each session has a maximum number of 400 visitors. Parents will need to show their reserved ticket and pay for £1 per ticket when entering the Christmas Fair. Please note, there will be no entry to the Christmas fair without a ticket.
  • On Thursday 28th November at 4:15pm families looking for a reception of nursery place are invited to join us for a tour of our lovely school. This is an opportunity to see our beautiful learning enviroment and meet with members of the Gilmour Team.
  • On Friday 29th November children are welcome to come to school wearing their own clothes in exchange for chocolate / sweets / cans or still drinks in the Infant Department. In the Junior Department children are asked to bring cakes.

What a busy week we have had in RA! We read a new book called The Story Orchestra. We have been learning about different instruments and the sounds that they make. We had a go at creating our own instruments and matched them to animals from the story. We also enjoyed a visit from the dental nurses and Rachel, who taught us how to ride balance bikes. 

We have been continuing our topic of printmaking in Art. We printed our tiles with red and created an inverted image. Next week we will add the last primary colour blue!

Thank you to Caoimhe’s Mum for coming in to play the cello for us . 

Reception have enjoyed being musicians this week! We have played lots of different instruments and have loved performing different rhythms for our friends. 

This week reception have enjoyed developing our balance bike skills.

RD learned about the importance of oral health. We know that we need to brush our teeth twice a day for two minutes. We have also been enjoying learning the names of different instruments and what sounds they make. We loved listening to Caoimhe’s mum play the cello. We have also enjoyed composing our own songs and making our own instruments.

In Art 5B have been using polystyrene to help print using paint.

5W have loved using polystyrene to help them to print in Art this week.

4S hard at work using their counters to multiply numbers across a place value grid by ten.

4DM enjoyed carrying out some experiments to test the melting points of different materials in science this week. We also found out why we keep seeing salt on the roads in this icy weather.

Alice in 6M goes to Aerial Ninjas Gymnastics in Hunts Cross, and is currently on Grade 4!
