Welcome to EYFS

Welcome to Nursery and Reception

Home Learning for Reception classes for Friday 24th January 2025:

Phonics

Here are some videos to help you learn how to read and write special friends ‘sh’ and ‘th’ at home. If your child is already familiar with this sound, it is important that they continue to review previously taught sounds so that they can read and write words using these sounds with fluency.

Maths

This week we have been learning about capacity and mass.

You could explore capacity at home by giving your child a tall, thin container and a shallow, wide container. Ask them to predict which will hold more water. How could they check? Encourage your child to try different methods and prompt them to record the capacity of each container. If you want to challenge your child, more containers could be added, and they could order them from the smallest capacity to the greatest capacity.

Writing

In Reception, we learn how to write simple captions and sentences.

Look at this picture and think of a simple sentence to describe what you can see:

For example, ‘A dog on a mat.’

Practice repeating the sentence to remember what you want to write.

Then, use Fred Talk to write each word.

Read the sentence back to check it makes sense.

We also check that we have a captial letter, a full stop and finger spaces.
